Can I make changes to my insurance at any time during the year?

As an employee, you are eligible to make changes to your existing health insurance plan with your employer at key times of the year.  Additions of children due to birth are required to take place within 31 days of the date of birth in order to have the newborn child added as of the birth date.  The same is true for additions of spouses after marriage.  If you are outside this 31-day window, you are not eligible to add these dependents until your employer’s open enrollment time.  This time varies from employer to employer.  Contact your human resource department to find out when open enrollment takes place for your organization.  In addition to these qualifying events, you are also eligible to add dependents onto your plan due to a loss of previous coverage.  Provide us with your “certificate of loss of coverage” from your prior insurance carrier showing the loss of coverage along with the appropriate application/ change form to have your dependent added on due to a loss of coverage.
